Hey Everyone! I'm hoping everyone's summers are going great! Looking over my social media platforms, I've been seeing and hearing about many of my friends getting full-time summer jobs/coops/internships and to simply put it, summer hasn't been so great for me so far. I have yet to nail an interview well enough to be offered the job. Job application rejection is probably in the top five things that I sincerely dislike (Obviously no one likes rejection!)

I've definitely been in some kind of funk the past couple of days because, at that point, I had at least applied to 200 jobs. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong places for positions. I'll never know, however, I refuse to feel sad solely on the fact that other people aren't willing to accept me into their company for a summer internship or position. You can't control what the others do, you can only control what you do.

So if any of you are currently in a similar position to me, even though it seems like the end of the world to not be offered a summer position at the beginning of the summer, here are some things to do and consider while you're in your funk. Welcome to the club!

It may be hard to see it now, because if you're anything like me, you're so driven and focused on applying to jobs that you lose sight of everything else that is going on. You start to think of all the things you would do if you had a job, and seem to forget all the things that you can do now that you have time. Now I'm not saying forgo the whole job searching mission, but remember that it is still summer break. Summer break should not be spent applying to and searching for jobs from the moment you wake up to the second you fall asleep (cough cough -- me). Take into the things that are going right for you and seize the time you have now, because in all honesty, once you get a job (and you will), free time won't come as easily.

Along with applying to jobs, I have also tried to improve other parts of my life, just so I have other things to do in a day besides just job applications.

So, what have I been up to?

I met up with a sorority sister that I hadn't seen in a while, and who was about to leave for a coop position in a couple of days.

I went for hikes with my sister (mostly to end up grabbing Starbucks) on her days off of work. We also had a mini photo shoot

I started learning more vegan recipes and continued researching topics surrounding veganism.

I've been walking around parts of Toronto that I hadn't been to before, with my cousin. Like last week Thursday, I finally walked around Kensington market, which was my first time (or perhaps I have been there before and can't remember for the life of me). The week before that, we went to the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario)

I've been finding new ways to improve my blog (better quality picture, making the occasional video, topic brainstorming sessions, etc.)

Trying to network and connect more with bloggers with a similar brand/niche to my blog (Blogging Conference, Social Media Interactions, etc)

Though I don't currently have any paid summer positions, I'm a little bit put at ease that I haven't been completely wasting my summer time just sitting on the couch watching Netflix and tv. I have been somewhat productive during my time off.

Some word of advice

One tip that I want to give to those still on that job search grind is to remember that quality beats quantity. Anyday! Like I said earlier, I had applied to at least 200 jobs, which is alright except for the fact that I literally just submitted my resume for and that was it. I had thought at the time, the more applications, the better my chances. Take the time to tailor your resume and application specifically to the position you are applying to, because chances are, you're more likely to see a positive response from a company if they can tell you put effort into your application. Especially if you're looking for a position or experience in your future career field. No matter how stressed you are and how badly you need a job, quality over quantity!

Good luck with your job search! I actually have a job interview tonight and tomorrow afternoon, so fingers crossed I land one!
