As much as I love using great products, there are times (many-a-times) where I just can't justify spending $100 on a serum. Thank you, next! That was definitely the case whenever it came to Drunk Elephant (DE) products. I completely understand why their products are priced on the higher end - they use great ingredients that are effective and clean - and that comes at a cost.

During the last Sephora sale, as I was perusing through the aisles of the skin section, I came across the new DE value pack called the "Get Even" kit.

You know those moments where you think "the time has come." That was what my brain was telling me as I looked at the kit.

Why? Well first, the kit was called "Get Even" and I have hyper-pigmentation that I would like to have evened out. Second, the kit comes with all the DE products that I've been wanting to try and last but not least, for the price of one serum (essentially), I could try out a chunk of the DE line before taking the (wallet) plunge on their full-size products. Did I mention that the sizes in this kit are not like dinky little ones? They're decent sample sizes at approx. 15mL (0.5 fl oz.) per item. With normal use, that should last you about 4 to 6 weeks - more than enough time to see some results.

I picked up the kit and didn't look back. That is until I got home and thought "Yeesh Martha, the mental acrobats you can do to convince yourself to buy things is truly a talent." Anywho, to make sure that I am objectively seeing results, instead of pretending to "see" results as a coping mechanism and justification strategy for having purchased something, I decided to document my 6-week journey with photographic evidence. To prove an ROI (return-on-investment) I will be reporting back updating this blog post at the 3-week mark (on Sunday, June 9th) and at the final 6-week mark (on Sunday, June 30th) where I will answer the question we're all wanting to know. Are these products worth it?

With these new products, my morning routine would remain the same, I will just be adding a treatment serum in the morning which I don't typically have. My routine would then look a bit like this:

In the morning, I either use a foaming cleanser (like today, I am using a Korean foam cleanser that I am 100% obsessed with from Etude House called the Wonder Pore Deep Foaming Cleanser) or a micellar water. I follow that up with a toner, Sunday Riley's Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner, to be specific. Not only for the oil sucking capabilities (thanks to the bentonite clay) but it is a good hydrating base. The only DE product I use in the morning (and the only change I made to my routine) is the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Vitamin C Day SerumIt has a bit of a weird smell, nothing off-putting, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is, yet. It also has a bit of a tacky feeling after applying. I don't mind it, and the tackiness is minimized after you apply a moisturizer.

The moisturizer that I use is the Origins Ginzing Energy Boosting Gel Moisturizer. It's light but hydrating enough for my oily skin during the warmer months. After that soaks in a bit, I finish off my routine with the Shiseido Ultra Sun Protection Spray SPF 50. I love this sunscreen because the spray application makes it easier for me to reapply throughout the day and the formula doesn't make my makeup clump up.

And now, it's time to show what I'm working with (deep breath).

Now, I'm obviously not expecting to have a change after one use (but I am loving the glow from after the first wash, thank you!) I'm excited to be tracking the changes and seeing if these products work for me. The other products that come in the kit (the TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum, the A-Passioni Retinol Cream and, the Protini Polypeptide Cream), I have been using in my night routine. The only product in the kit that I don't see myself using as much is the Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense SPF 30 because it does leave a bit of a grey cast so you'll have to put on a bit of foundation to get rid of that effect. I'm happy with my current sunscreen so the DE probably won't see much use from me.

See you all in a few weeks with updates.

 Day 21 (Week 3): Sunday, June 9th, 2019

Welcome Back! Can you believe 3 weeks have come and gone? So far I've noticed a slight fading in the hyper-pigmentation marks I do have but, to my surprise, I haven't seen any new marks form (which I find is a great bonus). I also notice that my skin has become a bit more brighter, which I partially attribute to using the TLC Glycolic Framboos Serum at night switching in the A-Passioni retinol cream twice a week, and being rigid with my skincare regimen). I'm definitely a happy camper, which is also helping to keep the buyer's remorse at bay. Alright, let's chat side effects.

To provide some context, my skin is pretty resilient. Yes it's oily and yes it's acne-prone but I've never had to stop using a product because it's burning or tingling unbearably. The same thing rang true with these DE products. The only products that had a slight tingle (and when I say slight, I mean had I put the product on and then when to go focus on something else, I wouldn't have noticed anything), were the TLC Glycolic Framboos and the A-Passioni Retinol. This was only for the first time I tried the product, after that, I didn't notice a thing. If you are more on the sensitive side (and even if your not), I highly suggest doing a patch test to see how you react to the products. You know your face and skin best. I also notice 1 or 2 very tiny (super tiny) white heads pop out around my chin or cheeks. Nothing too serious. All in all, I'm happy with the progress this far and can't wait for the final check in another 3-weeks.
